Familiar Subject

The next lesson from Kat's Find Your Eye was to take 50 shots of a familiar subject.
My daughter had her 17th birthday on Monday and one of the gifts she received was this beautiful mirrored jewellery box and bracelets.
As soon as I saw them I wanted to photograph them. I love reflections and I thought this might make a good subject. I took more than 70 shots - I nearly didn't know when to stop lol.
It's amazing where the time goes when you get engrossed in what you are doing.  Anyway here are my favourites - I hope you like them

  2. Did you find it interesting that most of your favorite shots just showed a piece of the bracelet and not the whole thing? Sometimes showing one detail or element is the way to go! What an interesting subject, with all of the different colors, textures and details. The mirrored surface was a great add to create interesting and more abstract compositions. I'm glad you had fun!

  3. I also like the second photo. Kat's right, the part is often more interesting than the whole. That said, I also love the last one with the bracelet on a mirror. The light in that one's so soft and dreamy.

  4. I can see why you wanted to photograph this subject as there is so much wonderful color and glimmer involved! The second shot is my favorite for it's strength of statement, beautiful warm/cool color harmony, and shimmer! Heck, glimmer and shimmer is just plain appealing:) Super capture!

  6. Very nice, I like the second one with the close detail, reflections and blurriness in the background :)

  7. Really like these Ellie. Amazing how different something looks from different perspectives. Great practice for your general photography. once you do this a few times, no potential subject will be seen the same way again. First thing you know you are up on a ladder, or laying on the ground or something you had never thought of before. These are lovely. Bet you are enjoying this class

  12. Excellent subject to study. I especially like the 2nd, with its contrast between sharp shiny foreground and soft glowing background, and also the 3rd, with several visual levels, the bracelet, its echo in the mirror and then those mysteriously appearing white star/flowers, which I guess are some sort of design on the jewelry box.

  13. Ellie what a fabulous idea to use the mirror and get that wonderful reflection! The colors are beautiful, and the angles, details and colors are fabulous. Your photos, to me, look like expensive magazine ad photos! Very lovely!

  14. What gorgeous bracelets - I absolutely love beads because of all their colors! I completely understand getting lost in the process when taking pictures - before you know it, you've taken hundreds! :)
