Final Lesson

Well, we have reached the final lesson in Kat's Find Your Eye class. I have to say it has been an eye opening class. Makes you look and assess your pictures.

I have transferred a lot of pictures to my inspiration folder and studied them to try and find a common theme.

The main themes I have identified are light, reflection and water.
Somebody told me most of my pictures had water in them somewhere - I hadn't realised it before but she was right.

On of my most favourite things to photograph is flowers and using macro is great as you get right into the heart of the flower.

Beautiful light add to much to a picture and I am always on the lookout for it.

I also love reflections - the clearer the better. The picture below was taken at a break we had at
Pitlochry. It was a beautiful Autumn day and the water was very still.

Now, I'm not very good at putting what I want to say into words, so I've not found this part of the exercise very easy.  But it has definately made me think a lot more about my pictures.

I have really enjoyed doing these lessons and I thank Kat and the rest of the girls for their input and comments.

  3. Lovely photos Ellie, and I do think it it very enlightening to see what it is that you "love". My favorite on these is the second one that you posted under light. When you are photographing that which you love, the beauty will shine through. Really nice selection you have here, and so glad you enjoyed the class. Jeanne

  4. I really like the composition of the macro of the bubbles in the water. Nice exposure on that. And the one of drops of water in the milkweed too. Beautiful. I also love macros and reflections. Isn't it interesting to do a little analysis. So looking forward to taking the next step with you.

  5. What a lovely series, Ellie. I like all of these shots for different reasons. The sunset is beautiful with the mountains and the texture of the water. The bubbles in the water are really fun and I know exactly what you mean by getting into the heart of a flower!
I really like the light and the water droplets in the third photo (maybe a dandelion clock?)
I like the character of the tortured branches in nature and I just love the way you've captured the misty atmosphere in the next photo and how the lighting brings the blades of grass to my attention on the left of the picture.
The last image of the autumn reflections in the lake is stunning and I love the way two little trees on the right poke out above the line of the mountains in the reflection.
The picture of the hedge looks like a nice place to walk along at the end of a day.

See you in our continuing journey. This will be fun!

  7. Wonderful images Ellie! I love what you pulled out, with your main elements. Isn't it interesting on the water! Such a soothing yet diverse element to be drawn to. It is great to see how this has come together for you. Words don't really matter, it's what you feel inside that counts. I look forward to seeing you in the next class!

  9. Not wanting to sound redundant, but WOW!! Your photos are breathtaking Ellie! I love the 2nd one with bubbles, and 4th one in macro (my favorite lens) and the relfection of the trees in the last one. Isn't it rewarding to now look through photos and recognize similarities? I am enjoying that part, and I am putting more photos in my inspiration file. See you again soon!

  10. Hi Ellie,
What a beautiful collection of photos! My absolute favorites are the bubbles and the dew-laden dandelion. Wonderful! I also see in your captures a strong sense of design. There is an emphasis on simple strong patterning, composed in a pleasing manner. That is a great thing, art-wise, especially with landscape work, where we are dealing with so much detail. All of nature's detail is often difficult to organize in a cohesive way. Thus, you rock:)
I look forward to seeing you in the next class.

  22. Every picture in this post is a gem but, three just blew my socks off (so to speak). The soap bubbles, water drops on the flower and the sunlit fence are all ones I wish I had taken.
